MetallicaOn Friday, May 3, James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett of Metallica played the national anthem at AT&T Park before the start of the San Francisco Giants game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The video is embedded below.

In addition to the duo’s rendition, Lars Ulrich threw out the first pitch, and fans who purchased the ticket package for the game received a limited-edition Giants cap featuring Metallica’s logo.

During a recent interview at a radio station in Vancouver, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich confirmed that the fans might wait a while until the arrival of a new album, which could be released in 2014. As Ulrich stated, Metallica first has a 3D concert film to do before sitting down to write any new material. He added: “I would say late ’13 or early ’14. It’s difficult to image … I think even late ’13 may be a bit optimistic. I would say hopefully we can realistically get a record out probably about a year and a half from now, so maybe early ’14.”

The band will shoot the aforementioned film on August 24th – 25th in Vancouver on a giant stage backed with plenty of visuals from throughout their career that will help serve the story told with the film. The drummer states, “The rest of the film will be shot the next two or three weeks after the shows in Vancouver, into the middle to the third week of September.”
