Iron Maiden‘s ‘Trooper’ beer officially hit the shelves last week, but not all of the markets are on board with the promotion. Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet reports that sales of the beer have been halted in Sweden due to concern of the beer’s label running afoul of the country’s alcohol requirements.
Even with the trouble in Sweden, ‘Trooper’ beer officially launched last week during a special event at Robinsons Brewery in Cheshire, England.
Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson stated, “I’m a lifelong fan of traditional English ale; I thought I’d died and gone to heaven when we were asked to create our own beer. I have to say that I was very nervous: Robinsons are the only people I have had to audition for in 30 years. Their magic has been to create the alchemical wedding of flavor and texture that is ‘Trooper.’ I love it.”
The Trooper beer is currently available only in European countries and is stocked in Robinsons pubs. To see locations, click here.
Iron Maiden’ vocalist Bruce Dickinson is an avid fencer and recently took the opportunity to square off against Olympic silver medalist Bartosz Piasecki ahead of the Norwegian Fencing Championship.
The 54-year-old Dickinson told Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten (excerpted by MaidenRevelations.com), “I had two points in a row,” but not soon after the much-taller Piasecki managed to finish off the heavy metal legend.
Piasecki said of Dickinson, “He’s kick-ass. He is short but incredibly fast. That’s his weapon. He looked like Rocky when he arrived in a brown robe with the fencing kit in a shoulder bag.”
After Dickinson’s quick start, Piasecki took five points on Dickinson and the vocalist failed to score a point in the final round.
Dickinson told the newspaper, “For me, fencing is training. I gave up competing in tournaments when I was 23. At that point, I was ranked number 7 in Britain. I fence because I enjoy it and the by-product is that I end up getting in reasonably good shape. Actually fencing is very similar to the way I run around on stage. Or maybe I run around on stage like that because I fence. Either way it works for me.”
We are deeply saddened to report that Clive Burr, Iron Maiden former drummer, passed away last night.
“This is terribly sad news. Clive was a very old friend of all of us. He was a wonderful person and an amazing drummer who made a valuable contribution to Maiden in the early days when we were starting out. This is a sad day for everyone in the band and those around him and our thoughts and condolences are with his partner Mimi and family at this time.”
~ Steve Harris
“I first met Clive when he was leaving Samson and joining Iron Maiden. He was a great guy and a man who really lived his life to the full. Even during the darkest days of his M.S., Clive never lost his sense of humour or irreverence. This is a terribly sad day and all our thoughts are with Mimi and the family.”
~ Bruce Dickinson
Clive Burr joined Iron Maiden in 1979, and played on three releases: Iron Maiden, Killers and The Number of the Beast. He left the band in 1982 due to private reasons. Later on he played for Trust, Alcatrazz, Gogmagog and his own band Clive Burr’s Escape.
We all know how big the love is between metallers and beer, so this news did not come as a surprise. Robinsons Brewery and Iron Maiden have joined their forces and created a new beer – TROOPER!
Bruce Dicikinson was active during the creation process and commented:
“I’m a lifelong fan of traditional English ale; I thought I’d died and gone to heaven when we were asked to create our own beer. I have to say that I was very nervous: Robinsons are the only people I have had to audition for in 30 years. Their magic has been to create the alchemical wedding of flavour and texture that is Trooper. I love it.”

After a very successful summer of 2012, IRON MAIDEN continue on their exciting path. They started their biggest tour in a while last year in North America, named MAIDEN ENGLAND WORLD TOUR. This promising tour is a new big chapter in the history of IRON MAIDEN. Production wise and in song selection this tour carefully follows the Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son tour from 1988. The band doesn’t show the signs of stopping or a decline in passion for music that has been keeping them on the throne of metal music for the past three decades.
Bruce Dickinson said this about the tour:
“We’re excited to perform in Croatia again. Thanks to modern technology we we’re able to upgrade and improve the original production from 1988. for the Maiden England tour. With new production comes a new light-show, stage as well as different incarnations of Eddie, lots of fireworks and many more with which we’ll blow the fans away!”
Steve Harris added:
“We’re aware how popular IRON MAIDEN tours are and how important they are for all generations of fans and that’s why the European part of the tour will be identical to the North American one. We really enjoyed the set-list in which we included songs we haven’t played in a while like Seventh Son, The Prisoner i Afraid To Shoot Strangers, as well as fan favourite The Trooper, Aces High, The Number Of The Beast, Wasted Years and Run To The Hills. First part of the tour was amazing and we’re looking forward to continue it Europe.”
New brave era of IRON MAIDEN reached the peak during the “Somewhere back in time” tour which started in February of 2008., mainly to take the band to 45 cities around the world. They had their own charter plane (Boeing 757, Ed Force One) which was flown by Bruce Dickinson, a qualified pilot. The flew around the planet, from India to Costa Rica, over Australia and China to Brazil.
In their 32 year long career they sold over 90 million albums! The held over 2000 live concerts in 58 countries, released 15 studio albums of infallible quality and with their powerful name of Iron Maiden they proudly carry and maintain the status of one of the most influential and respected bands ever.
The Final Frontier, their most successful album reached 1st place on music charts, including Croatia off course!
