BELLA MORTE

Beautiful Death

(Metropolis Records , 2008.)

(85/100)

Bella Morte is band, since 1996 , known by their hybrid of Gothic, synthpop, punk and Darkwave. And now they present their new album “Beautiful Death” which is, for those who maybe doesn’t know, English translation of their originally Italian name. Bella Morte –  gloom rockers pull out all elements of pop, hard rock and classic Gothic to fit for any stormy Friday night alone at home by candlelight.
Bella Morte maybe isn’t band original but their sound is pure and Andy Deane’s voice is controlled and sound as a perfect match with the ambient music provided by the rest of the band. “Beautiful Death” is full of heavy down-tempo, minor key song with sweetly written piano lines like opener “Find Forever Gone”. The rhythm section is tight and punchy with enough guitar crunch to accompany, which makes this writer think of Evanescence, while the vocals are reminiscent of any of your favorite European synthpop or EBM acts. “One Thousand Years” displays the band’s stronger songwriting moments while “Burn the Sky” kicks you in the head with a much needed swaggering rock stomper that still maintains its moodiness perfectly and interludes with some very impressive electronic work while “Nine Hours” shows the band’s penchant for those pretty honey dripping piano instrumental parts and ends on that note.  So if you just want an album that you can listen to and smile bittersweet over, “Beautiful Death” is an essential part of your music collection. Fans of Disturbed, Faith No More, and Savior Machine will love Bella Morte and if you aren’t into any of those bands) you’ll definitely find Bella Morte fantastic anyway. An absolute must own. Enjoy.
