Opća opasnost, Croatia’s famous hard rockers played Zagreb, six months ago. They did a great concert then, so I knew what to expect. The club was almost full, the crowd was in the mood, the band too.
The opening act for Opća opasnost were their younger fellow citizens Off Side. Formed in 2003, they released their first album in 2008. Off Side is a band on the rise, a band that is currently praised by everyone. They already have quite a few followers. They recently performed at Croatian Super Talent, where they played one of their original songs, “Istočna Europa” (“Eastern Europe”). They played it Pauk, along with other original songs and interesting covers, such as R.E.M.’s “The One I Love”.
I must admit that the last time I did not expect that Opća opasnost have so many fans among the younger audience. I was wrong. This time I knew I could expect the crowds to be high on adrenaline and jump and sing every verse. I do not know that this is the secret of Opća opasnost’s successful return on the scene, but the band that originated in the early ‘90s, played for years in different line-ups, released five albums by the end of the decade and then disappeared from the scene has hit it big this time. Last year they released a best-of album and did a great come-back. It seems that Opća opasnost are now more popular than ever and I must admit that I am happy for them. For years they were true to themselves. Their music proves to touch a lot of people of different generations. They are among the last bands that maintain the spirit of hard rock on the local scene and apparently they’re good at it. They played their biggest hits: “Treba mi nešto jače od sna”, “Ruski rulet”, “Jendom kad noć”, “Ti”, “Tri rijeke” and the newest one: “Uzalud sunce sja”, which is obviously on its way to become one of their most popular songs. Judging by the audience in Pauk, the guys from Opća opasnost are local stars. There is something inexplicably charming in their most famous songs, and even if you normally do not listen to such rock, chances are you’ll have a good time at their concert. After the concert, they went to Hard Place, where fans could meet them for a drink and talk to them.
