After 25 years since founding Megadeth finally Zagreb droped in the story. Boogaloo was too tight even this time and to hot for fans that came to see them, and they were from 15 till…..and those from 15 were the fastest and heaviest, their main goal was to get to the front rows.
Doors were opet at 8 and at 8:30 entrance was still overcrowded. Additional slow down was leaving the backpacks at the same door. As i was waiting for the concert i peeked at merchandise and noticed that all t-shirts and other thingies with band logo on are very expensive. Did they forget they are not in the EU? It would be fair to fans if they accomondated the prices, just like everybody else do, because 160 kn for girlie t-shirt is simply to much.
Half hour after opening Slovenian Prospect enters the stage, which i have seen before 4.5 years with Halloween and it seemes that they aremore suitable to be their support other than Megadeth’s. More or less – seen.
And finaly, at about 9:45 after long shouting Megadeth – Shawn Drover than Chris Broderick, David Ellefson and in the end whose appearence made most excitement – Dave Mustaing. Wake Up Dead starts. Atmosphere is unbeliveabely hot, fans are one on the other what lasted during Skin O’ My Teeth, Head Crusher, In My Darkest Hour. It is bad that sound was really bad even worse than usually bad. We were bothered by Daves mummerling in mircrophone, but it didn’t bother the fans.
Holy Wars… The Punishment Due, Hangar 18, Five Magics, Poison Was The Cure, to many set list couldn’t be better and more perfect. Although band left impression that they play because they have to, great and secure, without any interesting in communication with the audience, nobody seemed to bother that (besides the ones when many waited an autograph or photo with Dave after the concert and that didn’t happen, situation was saved by other band members, especially David Ellefson with who we had an honor to talk to for Venia before the concert).
As the concert was coming to an end, songs they were playing were one better than another: Tornado Of Souls, Trust, A Tout Le Monde, Sweating Bullets, Symphony Of Destruction, Peace Sells / Holly Wars. For encore – Angry Again and She Wolf and that was it for this time. As they came, so they left with short greeting – „You’ve been great, we’ve been Megadeth“.
This concert won’t be remembered for dying hot which was really hard in the club, moshing because of overcrowded clud or hectolitres of beer which was a liquid for life or bad sound. No. It will be remembered for great audience comprehension, constant energy and loud band support and excitement with the fact that band was here and it shouldn’t avoid Croatia on their tours. And, of course, concert that will, after famous Metallica’s on muddy Hippodrome, be written in new Croatian music history.
